BWAPI 1.10

Postby matefkr » Mon Dec 26, 2011 4:49 pm

Does BWAPI run on 1.10 version of starcraft? If not i think it would be good idea to make it run on it, because if im not mistaken there is a limit expander for that version of starcraft, maybe others as well. And since there are quite a few custom servers, i figured there is no reason to stick to blizzard versions, and bug fixes, since those small fixes can be easily patched up by coders of BWAPI (usually). Or did anyone made a limit expander for starcraft?

Maybe someone could even ask blizzard, they could make one easily.

I really think you'd want to use SC 1.16.1 due to the many bugfixes and popularity of this version worldwide

Then might just try to convince blizzard to extend limits on next patch.

Blizzard isn't releasing a next patch afaik.
We can just expand the limits with BWAPI if we wanted.

What limits are we talking about?

Also, BWAPI should be partially functional on all versions of Starcraft if the code I wrote works correctly.

If we can expand thats cool. I meant, things like unit limits, sprite limits, weapon limits, supply limits, and maybe add two more players so that 10 can play.

This just in, a friend of mine wanted to increase the map size limit from 256x256 to 512x512.

We got 256x512 working

Although it is extremely buggy it probably won't see the light of day because of the amount of work required to stabalize it.

without extending other limits it would be just somewhat usefull, but then production times and such should be also modified. However i have to remind you what i have told a few years ago on warboards if im right: "you better off writing a new game/engine instead" or perhaps just picking a different engine which is opensource, still all the work put in from that point in time (like 4 or maybe even 6 years ago) one could have written a much much better game. But i think its not too late now, i have magnificent ideas. obviously it should be in 3d, physics should be in 3d.

I, too, agree that we'd be better off using a new free, OS engine instead of continue hacking on the current one. We may make ports to other OSes like Linux, attaching BWAPI (or whatever the new API is called) wouldn't need a hack, etc.
